Physical Education
At Jesse Gray our PE curriculum is underpinned by our school values of
Inspire Achieve Challenge Enjoy with the aim of developing our
childrens physically literacy. We aspire for our children to develop a
positive relationship with sport and exercise that will continue into
secondary school, university and long into their futures. Our goal is to
offer high quality PE that is engaging, differentiated when
requires, sequential and offers pupils opportunities to develop their
abilities through clear learning outcomes.
Each half term we aim to develop skills such as throwing and catching,
balance and movement through a number of different Sports and
activities including dance, gymnastics, tennis, hockey and invasion
games. We also teach sports leadership to all pupils in year 6, which
allows them to become young leaders and assist in
different events including our sports days.
Inspire - We want our children to find their sport/activity and use it for
personal growth. In addition to the activities covered in our curriculum,
we make every effort to expand upon this through our extra-curricular
clubs and competitions. The social and teamwork aspects of PE help to
install confidence in our children as well as promote inclusivity for all.
Achieve - Our lesson plans follow a clear progression through each half
term as well as each year, expanding upon skills taught previously and
applying them within games and performances. Children are
encouraged to self-evaluate to reach their full potential within an activity.
Challenge - At Jesse Gray, we provide opportunities for our children to
compete at local, district and National level in a wide variety of sports
and activities. We also look to challenge our children's cognitive abilities
by including tactical and problem-solving children's within our PE
provision.
Enjoy - We take onboard regular feedback from our children to ensure
that they are having a positive experience in PE as well as ensuring our
extensive extra-curricular provision meets the needs of our pupils.
